So . . . who's behind vargaswhistles.com?
Name: Erik Torp-Olsen
Age : 53
Location: The town of Bergen on the west-coast of Norway
Occupation: Socialworker
I started playing the recorder-flute at the age of 6.
Many years later I was introduced to a Generation D-whistle, and that became the end of me playing the recorder.
I share a common experience with many a whistler; -the search for a cheap whistle that sounds and plays well.
This led me to find out what make whistles tick, and how to make my own.
I've been making whistles from scratch using all kinds of materials: PVC-tubing, brass and regular steel sheet metal.
All kinds of designs have been explored also: Clarke-style whistles with wooden fipple-plugs, PVC mouthpieces, whistles having rounded lips
and whistles having straight lips, cylindrical shafts and conical shafts, narrow bores and wide bores . . . and so on.
Years before seeing tweaked whistles on the internet, I started tweaking Feadógs and Generations.
It's a shame that people need to buy a bucket full of these whistles in order to find a decent sounding specimen.
So I did something about it and started tweaking them. -And why not let other whistlers benefit from it too?
So here I am . . . offering tweaked whistles for a cost that most people will be able to pay without going into bankruptcy.
